Preserved roses in Phuket: the room decides how long they last
Start with the room. A preserved rose is a living rose whose sap has been swapped for a glycerine solution that keeps the petal soft for years. Glycerine also draws moisture out of whatever air surrounds it. Phuket has a humid tropical climate all year, +25 to +33 °C, with a rainy season from May to October.
Air conditioning is the entire care routine.
Leave one in a wet room and nothing dramatic happens. The petals go soft, then heavy, then faintly tacky under a finger. The head loses its line at the edges. Colour flattens. By the time anyone notices, a season has gone by. The flower did not fail; the room did.
What you are buying
The rose itself is real. It is cut on the plantation as the bud opens, and the dye that colours it rides up the stem in the solution. No bush grows a black rose.
Indoors the honest lifespan runs one to three years. A single rose sealed under glass sits at the top of that range. An open box gets handled and moved, so it lands lower. Expect the colour to lose a little depth each year and read that as patina.

Keeping one alive here
The rules are short because there is little to do. Follow them and the arrangement will still look right when the next birthday comes round. Ignore the first one and none of the others will save it.
- Give it the cooled room. Cooled air is drier air, and dry is what it wants.
- Choose glass where you can. A sealed dome holds a small pocket of protected air.
- Keep it off terraces, salas and bathrooms. Those sit at outdoor humidity or shower steam all day.
- Never water or mist it. Water dissolves the treatment. No vase, no spray bottle.
- Dust it dry. Once a month, a soft brush or a hairdryer on cold. Under a dome, only the glass.
The formats we build
The glass dome is one rose on a short stem under a cloche, sometimes with an LED ring set into the base. Here it is the format we suggest first. The glass does half the work of keeping air out. It is also the one that survives a flight home, padded with clothes in a suitcase. Guests checking out of a resort choose it for that reason.
The acrylic box has clear walls and heads packed tight, from four roses up to twenty-five. Being enclosed, it copes with this climate better than anything open-topped. The velvet hat box in terracotta-nude and the heart box are open at the top, so they need a cooled room.
