Graduation flowers in Phuket: small year groups, personal bouquets
A graduating class here is usually five to fifteen people. The hall holds parents, a few teachers and a row of younger siblings. Nobody queues for two hours to cross a stage, and the whole thing can be over before the ice in the drinks has melted.
That changes what the flowers are for. With three hundred leavers, bouquets are a counting exercise: twenty identical wraps, one per name. With eleven, each one can be built for the person holding it. Parents often go in together on three or four, which costs each family less and photographs better than a row of matching cellophane cones.
That intimacy sets the whole tone.
It also sets the timing. Halls are booked by the hour, caterers work to a start time, and half the families fly out within the week.
Several graduation seasons, not one
There is no single graduation month here. Thai schools follow their own academic calendar and close the year around March. International schools split by system: the British ones finish in late June or early July, the American ones in May or June. A few run a southern-hemisphere year and finish in November. So gowns and mortarboards turn up in our order notes in at least four separate windows, and dates cluster hard enough that one Saturday in late June can carry a dozen deliveries to the same stretch of the west coast.
The venue is the second question, and it is not always the school. Some stay on site, in a sports hall with the air conditioning running hard. Others move to a resort ballroom or a beach club, so give us the address of the day rather than the name of the school.
Heat and humidity decide the build before taste does. Open peonies, garden roses and hydrangea look right in an indoor photograph and fold in the car park. Thai orchids do the work instead — dendrobium and mokara — with chrysanthemum and tropical foliage. That holds through an hour of handshakes, a photo session on the grass and a drive home with the windows down.
Four builds cover most of what goes to a ceremony. In a group this size they sit side by side on a table during drinks, where everyone sees all of them.
- The graduate's own — height, one clear colour, made to be held up.
- Joint from the parents — larger, one per group of families.
- For a teacher — smaller, same palette, card naming the subject.
- For a younger sibling — a few stems for the child in the second row.
The teacher's bouquet is its own order
Almost every graduation order includes a bouquet that is not for a graduate. Parents tend to think about it last. It goes to a form tutor, a head of year, or the teacher who got a child through an exam nobody expected them to pass.
Keep it smaller than the graduate's, and keep red out of it. Deep red roses read as romance in most of the countries these families come from, and a teacher handed them in front of a hall of parents has nowhere to look.
"Parents ask me for something impressive for the teacher. Then I ask how big her car is. It usually ends with a bouquet she can hold in one hand while shaking the other."

White, cream, soft yellow, green and lilac orchid carry it without that reading. A card naming the subject does more than ten more stems, because that is the part still repeated at home a week later.
Getting it there on the hour
Ceremony timing is less forgiving than a birthday. So we work backwards from the handover, not the address. Flowers arriving at eleven for a ten o'clock start meet an empty hall and a caretaker stacking chairs.
Most families want the bouquet waiting before the ceremony starts. Give us the hour in Phuket time, UTC+7, which never shifts for daylight saving. Our day runs from 9 AM to 10 PM. Resorts and beach clubs hold deliveries against the event name, so send the name the booking sits under and a phone that answers.
Rain slows the hill roads from May to October, so anything pinned to a start time is safer booked the day before. Orders begin at 2200 THB, by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PromptPay, transfer or cash in baht. Tell us the year group, the venue and the hour, and we will build graduation flowers in Phuket that are still upright when the last photograph is taken.
