Funeral flowers in Phuket: built to hold in a warm room
Most arrangements we send live in a cool hall and then in a vase of water. These do neither. They spend their working hours in a closed room full of people, under lights, and sometimes outdoors in sun or wind, and they have to look composed for the whole of it with nobody tending to them. That single condition explains most of how they are made.
Foam, and why it gets soaked well ahead
Wreaths, baskets and standing pieces are built on floral foam soaked all the way through before any stem goes in. Each stem drinks from the block rather than from a vase, which is what lets the piece stand at any angle and travel upright in a van over a long road. A block soaked in a hurry keeps a dry core. The stems pushed into that core wilt hours ahead of the rest of the work, and by the time it shows, nothing can be done about it. So the soaking happens well before the build starts, not alongside it.
Warmth is the other half of the problem. A room fills with people and heats up quickly, and every open bloom takes that as a signal to finish opening. In air that already sits at 25 to 33 °C with humidity behind it, that happens faster here than the same piece would manage anywhere cooler. We answer it by setting material slightly closed, so the work comes into full flower during the service instead of the evening before.
Nothing about that is a matter of taste.
Chrysanthemum and Thai orchid stay presentable long after imported roses have softened at the neck, so they carry the mass in almost everything we build for this. Tropical foliage does quiet work underneath, holding its shape when the petals around it have started to go. Hydrangeas give volume and belong in the pieces that stay indoors, out of any direct sun.
Where it goes on the island
Funeral flowers in Phuket go to four kinds of address, and the address decides the timing more than the build does:
- a ceremony venue, where the piece is delivered to a set hour and left with whoever is running the day
- a family home in Phuket Town or Chalong, usually a sympathy bouquet sent once the funeral itself is over
- a villa on the west coast, where the courier is met at the gate and the box goes the last stretch on foot
- a hotel, most often Rosewood Phuket, The Slate Phuket, Trisara, Banyan Tree Phuket or Veranda Resort Phuket, for a family who has travelled in.

How long it holds, and the road
Cut stems generally give one to two weeks in cool water. In a warm hall, count on considerably less, and judge the piece by how it looks on the day rather than by what it might do afterwards. Patong, Kata, Karon, Kamala, Surin and Bang Tao sit in the 90 to 180 minute window, with Rawai, Chalong and Mai Khao on the same board and separate windows for villas, marinas and airport runs. Between May and October we add route time for monsoon showers and evening hill traffic, and for this occasion we confirm the loading hour the same morning.

Send the age and sex of the person who has died, who the flowers come from, the venue and the hour. If the venue is not something you can confirm from where you are, the funeral director's number is worth more to us than an address.
