Mini bouquets in Phuket: the daily cost of a small glass
Short stems drink well, because the water has less distance to travel, and a tired head often lifts overnight once it is cut down. That is the good half of the format. What it costs you is water volume, and in a climate that usually sits between 25 and 33 °C that cost is charged every single day.
A tumbler holds a fraction of what a vase holds. It warms up within an hour on a sunlit table, several stems can empty it before the next morning, and the water turns cloudy sooner than anybody expects it to. Change it daily and wash the glass with soap rather than rinsing it. Narrow vessels build a film on the inside walls quickly, and fresh water poured into a dirty glass sours by evening.

Humid air is the part people do not account for. It slows evaporation from the petals, which helps, and it does nothing at all for what happens inside the glass, which is where these bouquets are actually lost.
Stability
A short bunch in a light glass tips over easily. The centre of gravity sits above the rim, and a slammed door or a knee against a table leg is enough to do it. Choose something with weight at the bottom: a thick walled tumbler, a mug, a small jar with a broad base. Filling the vessel right to the top helps too, because the water itself becomes ballast, and a couple of stones in the bottom does the same job for anything that came without weight of its own.
This matters more on an island than it would in a flat. Flowers here often end up on a terrace table, a balcony rail or a counter beside an open door, and those are exactly the surfaces people walk past with their hands full.
What goes into them
Density is the rule. Heads sit close together in an even cushion, since at this length any gap between blooms reads as a hole rather than as airiness, and flowers are chosen small or medium so nothing outweighs its own stem.
Thai orchids fall into that range naturally and hold longer in warm humid air than anything else we cut. Chrysanthemums build the dense middle. Imported roses go in cut short, which is also the trick florists use on stems that have been standing a while. One head of hydrangea will fill a small glass on its own, and after that there is no room for a second.
Tropical foliage stays at the edge.
Getting them there
The west coast runs on a 90 to 180 minute window, with separate slots for villas, marinas and airport runs, and this is the format that handles those legs best. Nothing bends under its own weight, nothing catches the roof of the car, and a courier can carry it in one hand through a resort corridor. From May to October showers and evening hill traffic add route time, and half an hour extra costs a short bunch less than it costs a tall one.
