Forever roses: a real flower that keeps its bloom for years
A forever rose is not silk, not plastic and not a dried flower. It is a live rose, cut on the plantation the moment the bud opens, then treated so it stops ageing. Pick one up and it still behaves like a rose — cool, soft, slightly springy under the finger.
The treatment works from the inside. The fresh-cut stem stands in a bath, and over several days its own sap is drawn out and replaced by a glycerine-based solution the stem pulls up itself. Glycerine holds moisture in the cell walls, so the petal stays supple instead of drying to paper. Nothing is sprayed on.
Colour is part of the same step. The natural pigment leaves along with the sap, so dye goes into the solution and travels up the stem with it. That is why the shelf carries shades no greenhouse grows: deep blue, black, gold, powder, two-tone heads. We would rather say so plainly than pretend a blue rose came off a bush.
How long one actually lasts
Indoors, in a normal room, expect one to three years. A rose sealed under a glass dome sits at the top of that range: the glass keeps dust and damp off the petals. An open arrangement in a box gets handled more and lives at the lower end.
It does not stay frozen in time. Over the months the colour softens — reds settle into a duskier tone, whites drift towards cream. That is normal, not a fault: you are buying a flower that outlasts a fresh bouquet many times over, not one that is literally forever.
What shortens its life
Almost every ruined dome we have been shown comes down to one of five things. None of them is complicated.
- Direct sunlight. A sunny windowsill bleaches the dye within weeks. A shelf across the room is fine.
- Damp air. Glycerine attracts moisture. In a bathroom, petals go limp and tacky.
- Water. Never water it, never mist it, never stand it in a vase — water dissolves the treatment.
- Handling. A squeezed petal does not spring back the way a fresh one does; the crease stays.
- Dust. It settles into the velvet of the petal and dulls the colour.
Care is close to nothing. Keep it out of the sun, keep the room dry, and once a month lift the dust off with a soft dry brush or a hairdryer on cold at the lowest speed. Under glass, you only ever wipe the glass.

The formats we build
- Glass dome. One rose on a short stem under a cloche — the entry format, and the one that holds colour longest. Some carry an LED ring in the base.
- Acrylic box. Clear walls, heads set tight with no gaps. Built from four roses up to twenty-five and beyond.
- Hat box. Our own velvet box in a warm terracotta-nude tone, filled edge to edge.
- Heart box. It reads as a declaration before it is opened: Valentine's Day, proposals, first anniversaries.
Who orders them
Romance drives most of it: Valentine's Day, an engagement, a wedding anniversary, Mother's Day. The argument sells itself — the flower is still standing there on the anniversary of the day it was given.
The rest is business and habit. Reception desks, hotel suites and corporate gift lists run on flowers that need no replacing every Monday. So do people who travel, or who never get round to changing the water. Preserved roses need no cold chain and do not wilt while they wait, so an order can be placed well ahead of the date and sit boxed until the courier heads out in Geneva.
Against a fresh bouquet
A fresh bouquet is an event. It smells, it opens in front of you, and in seven to fourteen days it is over. That short life is part of what makes it land as a gift.
A stabilised arrangement is closer to an object. It has little or no scent, the head will not open further, and it stays where you put it. Per rose it costs more than a fresh stem, and it is not meant to stand in for an armful on a birthday.
Plenty of orders end up as both: fresh roses on the day, and a dome that stays on the shelf once the bouquet has gone. If you are unsure which format or colour fits, write to a manager.
