This is one of the rare flowers that keeps living in the vase. A tulip reaches for the light and can grow a couple of centimetres after cutting — no need to worry, that's exactly how it should be.
What tulips cost
In flower delivery across Astana, tulips are cheaper than roses for most of the year. Demand and price peak in late winter and early spring, before February 14 and March 8. The rest of the time they're especially good value.

How to pick fresh ones
A fresh tulip has a closed, firm bud and a springy stem. The leaves are juicy, with no yellowing or creases. If the bud is already wide open, the flower won't last long.
"Tulips love the cold. Put them somewhere cool and they'll close up at night, just like in nature," a florist's tip.
Caring for the bouquet
Trim the stems, pour in cold water and keep the bouquet away from radiators. Tulips have no use for warm water — it only makes them open and drop faster.
Order tulips in Astana in winter or early spring, when the choice of varieties and shades is richest. Fresh buds will last a week or more.
