Romantic bouquets in Dubai: one flower or a mix

Deep burgundy roses with a looser chrysanthemum against them in a Dubai workshop

A bouquet of one flower in one shade states something simple and states it loudly. Roses are the obvious version, though Dutch peonies out of season carry the same weight when they are in the workshop, and greenhouse tulips do it at the end of winter for a fraction of the fuss.

A mixed bouquet says something warmer and less formal. It suits an ordinary Tuesday rather than an anniversary, and it forgives a smaller budget, since nobody counts the stems in a mix the way they count a dozen of one thing. That last point is worth saying out loud, because most people assume the opposite and pay for the assumption.

"The mixed ones get sent more often and remembered longer. The monobouquets get photographed. Those are not the same success."

— JFLOO florist

There is a middle path worth knowing about. Take one flower as the mass, add a single contrasting texture, and the arrangement keeps the clarity of a monobouquet while looking considered.

How that works with what we have

Dutch roses at 60 to 90 cm are the mass in most of these builds, and the choice that follows is what sits against them. UAE greenhouse chrysanthemums give a looser face beside a round rose head, which is enough contrast on its own. Tulips do the same job with a flatter surface. Ecuadorian roses reaching 120 cm belong to the other end of the category entirely, where the point is scale and the answer to what else goes in is nothing.

Height inside the bouquet matters more than the count. Heads set at one level give the smooth cushion a lobby wants, while a few centimetres of variation makes identical roses look like somebody's hands were involved.

Density is the third thing, and heat decides it here. Blooms pressed edge to edge rub in transit and arrive as one mass, so the air between them is a working condition rather than a saving on stems.

Colour beyond red

Red is unambiguous and everyone reads it the same way, which is both its strength and its limit. Deep burgundy and plum say much the same thing at a lower volume, and they hold up better in evening light than bright scarlet, which tends to burn out under a flash. Blush and coral read as affection without the declaration attached. Ivory and white sit closest to weddings, so on an ordinary evening they can feel oddly ceremonial.

Decide what the recipient should conclude, then pick the shade that concludes it.

Scent belongs in that decision and rarely makes it there. Many commercially grown roses have almost none, so if scent is the point, say so at the order and we will build around what actually smells of something rather than adding another ten heads that do not.

Heat, hours and the handover

Summer air reaches 40 °C with humidity near the coast, and roses open faster in it than the same stems would elsewhere. For an evening handover we choose a tighter stage than the photograph shows, add insulated packing and keep the box out of direct sun. Delivery runs 2 to 4 hours, so a bouquet ordered at noon for the evening spends the afternoon in transit rather than in a cool workshop, and we would rather build it later than send it early.

Write the card in your own words. A line of your own outweighs a printed paragraph, and it is the part that stays after the flowers have gone.

We work 9 AM to 10 PM, orders start from 250 AED, and payment goes by Apple Pay or cash to the courier. Give us the hour rather than the date, add a phone number for towers in Downtown, Business Bay or Palm Jumeirah, and tell us whether the recipient will be in, because a romantic bouquet waiting at a security desk stops being one somewhere in the second hour.
