Every stem brings three to five buds with it, so the arithmetic that governs a rose order stops working the moment you switch formats. The bunch feels denser and weighs less, and it sits lower in the hand. Anyone who has carried a tall rose sheaf across a hotel lobby knows why that second point matters more than it sounds. What it will not do is give you one large bloom on a long stem. For a formal handover where a single head has to be visible from across a room, this is the wrong choice and no amount of stem count fixes it. The spray rose trades that one effect for everything else. The silhouette differs too. Single headed roses line up into an even dome with all the heads at one height; spray roses spread sideways and upwards in a scatter, buds at several levels, daylight between them. In a mono bunch they carry the whole volume by themselves. #### On the island The lower centre of gravity is not only a comfort question here. A bouquet that sits low in the hand also sits low in a box, and small firm heads take a knock better than open peonies or fully blown roses, which is why this format holds up on the 90 to 180 minute run along the west coast. Airport arrivals are where the difference shows most.
