### Ecuadorian roses in Dubai: the vase decides the order These are the roses people picture when they picture roses: a heavy head on a straight, thick, notably long stem. What the catalogue photograph never shows is that the flower arrives with conditions attached, and the room it goes into has to meet them. Most complaints about long-stem roses turn out to be complaints about the container. An ordinary kitchen vase is built for a bouquet from a supermarket. Put long heavy stems in it and the centre of gravity ends up above the rim, so the whole thing tips the first time somebody closes a door. What these flowers need is height and a broad, weighted base. Roughly speaking the vase should hold about half the stem, which for this group means a taller vessel than the one already on the shelf. Cutting the stems down solves the balance and throws away what you paid for. If the recipient owns nothing tall, send a bouquet built on shorter stems and keep the difference. We ask about the vase first. #### How the question lands across the city Delivery takes 2 to 4 hours across Downtown, Marina, JBR, Business Bay, Palm Jumeirah and DIFC. We work 9 AM to 10 PM, orders start at 250 AED, and payment goes through Apple Pay or cash to the courier. Ecuadorian stems here run up to 120 cm, with Dutch roses at 60 to 90 cm as the shorter alternative. Which of those we build on depends less on the budget than on the furniture. Long stems dislike being moved. Summer adds one more thing to the container question. Air outside runs up to 40 °C with high humidity along the coast, we add insulated packing and keep the box out of the sun, and a deep vase of cool water is the fastest way to undo that journey once the box arrives. A thick stem drinks a great deal, which is where shallow water becomes a real problem. Fill a third of the way and the cut is exposed by morning, air enters, and the head that should have opened over several days goes over at the neck. Recut at an angle on arrival and the same bouquet behaves normally. That single step matters more on this group than on anything else we sell. It is also the step people skip when a box arrives at nine in the evening. Height changes where the flowers live, which is worth settling before a vase is bought. A tall arrangement works on a console against a wall or on a side table, and it fails in the middle of a dining table because nobody can see the person opposite. > "We have delivered beautiful bouquets into flats with nothing to put them in. If the answer is a tall weighted vase we will build on the longest stems we have, and if it is a jug on a kitchen shelf we will build shorter and the bouquet will be better for it.
